Occupational Health and Safety Management System Auditor Registry

The AIHA Registry Programs has developed an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) Auditor Registry.

AIHA Registry Programs closely followed the activity of the ISO 45001 update. This Standard, ISO 45001, Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements, makes up a large portion of the body of knowledge and significantly impacts the timeline of the OHSMS Auditor Registry launch. In addition, the Body of Knowledge covers aspects of ISO 19011, Guidelines for auditing management systems and ANSI/ASSE Z10, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.

It is imperative that competent auditors perform OHSMS audits because effective audits may lead to a safer working environment if findings are addressed appropriately.

ISO states that:

“The burden of occupational injuries and diseases is significant, both for employers and the wider economy, resulting in losses from early retirements, staff absence and rising insurance premiums.

To combat the problem, ISO is developing a new standard, ISO 45001, Occupational health and safety management systems - Requirements, that will help organizations reduce this burden by providing a framework to improve employee safety, reduce workplace risks and create better, safer working conditions, all over the world.”

Once a candidate has submitted a qualifying application and passed the test, they will be recognized as a Registered OHSMS Auditor and will be listed on the online Registry Directory. The credential is good for 5 years, at which time the registrant may select to review by maintenance points or re-examination.
